Sometimes that Selke follows around a player for multiple years. Bergeron, Datsyuk, Kopitar and Brindy come to mind. Let's hope this is the beginning of many for Coots! The voters certainly thought he deserved it, and god knows we all agree.

Hoping they resign Pitlick I thought he was solid, if he is affordable and on a not too long contract, I don't recall too many mistakes or terrible moves, Love his drive to the puck and ability to fill in as needed ala Raffle.

Looking at what the Pens/Wild trade shows about what it’s going to take to drop salary, JVR is more or less unmovable.

There is no guarantee Seattle takes him. He either rides out the contract or we’d have to take a bad contract back to trade him.

With Fletcher looking for defensive depth...what about PK Subban (with NJ holding 2 mil of salary)?
He was rumored to be a possible move per The Athletic.

It seems crazy but hear it out:

Subban had a terrible year but never really jelled with NJ. He isn’t a top pair dman, but is a RD vet that can move the puck and has playoff experience. We lose one year of JVR’s cap hit in the deal.

Ghost had his “big year” the same year Subban was up for the Norris. PK’s had a couple down years (last year being BAD) but he was one of the top dmen in the league steady for half a decade before his last big season. Not saying they are the same type of player, but look at what happened to Weber. After a couple injuries I thought that dude was DONE. He’s bounced back.

Getting Subban for your third pair/power play at a wash $ wise for a third liner PP specialist (and dropping a year of cap hit)?

mmm...possible.

Although my guess is that Hagg will be their selection, there is always a chance that JvR is taken by Seattle to help reach the cap floor.

How much are you willing to give to pursuade Seattle that he is right for them? You could get out of the deal completely at that point.

So how much is worth it, and where is the line?

My guess is if it's JUST to get to the cap floor, they would be just as quick to grab Subban from the Flyers (if they made that trade). He would have only one year left at that point as well.

You know, I have been really anti-negotiations on the expansion draft...Saying you lose a good player either way why give them more. However, with the flat cap some teams will change on that I think. For instance, if the Flyers sent a couple prospects where we are deepest to get Seattle to take a higher salary player. That is probably my cut off as I really don’t like the idea but...cap space is at a premium.

Bill, thank you for your in-depth, detailed response to my question in the last blog. I don't know much about these things, but I can't imagine writing this blog on this site has enriched you beyond your dreams. You have all my respect for having taken the time to explain so much, even things I did not address, but have been discussed often here.
As for the answer to my specific question, it seems that Dave Scott is not micro-managing the on-ice product, but is involved. Communication, especially upwards (towards Scott) is a key aspect of how he does his job.
Perhaps the bias for action phrase was taken out of context, or blown out of proportion as Fletcher has been free to not "go for it all" this year. It seems maybe he was able to sell his continuation of Hexy's plan that they can have a decent chance for a few years in due time if the cap is managed properly.
Further, my guess is that had Ed Snider been around and Hextall's management style been the same, he may still have been fired. Unless, of course, Ed (who's heart and balls were each twice as large as the average man) had been able to alter his communication and inclusion of other departments.

I was pretty surprised that Fletcher pulled off a hockey trade with Gudas and Niskanen in-division last year so you never know. I think the Flyers could be a good fit for Subban.

Quotes won’t work for me, but in response to the Bjugstad trade: love seeing him gone already. Rutherford has missed on a lot of his trades and contracts it seems in recent years.

I think Seattle will have other ideas on hitting the cap floor than assuming jvrs contract

Why did I think the expansion draft was at the end of these playoffs and not after next season?

Dallas just seems to surprise every round. I thought AVs would end their run. Nope. Thought Vegas would get early lead in series. Nope.
